Google Gemini Surpasses 750M Monthly Users
Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, reached over 750 million monthly active users in Q4 2025, up from 650 million the previous quarter, though it still trails ChatGPT’s estimated 810 million MAUs. The growth is partly attributed to the launch of Gemini 3, which CEO Sundar Pichai said was a “positive driver” as Alphabet surpassed $400 billion in annual revenue. Google is pushing to sustain momentum with a cheaper AI Plus subscription and continued infrastructure investment, including the Ironwood TPU AI accelerator.

AMD Signals Next-Gen Xbox for 2027
AMD CEO Lisa Su said Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console, powered by a semi-custom AMD SoC, is “progressing well” and could launch in 2027, earlier than the previously rumored 2028 timeline. The system is part of a multi-year AMD–Microsoft partnership focused on co-engineered silicon, future handhelds, and deeper AI/ML integration in games. The console is expected to function as a hybrid platform, combining local hardware with cloud computing, potentially accelerated by slower-than-expected sales of current Xbox models.

Senators Question Meta Over Teen Safety
A Senate inquiry is examining whether Meta delayed child safety protections to preserve engagement. Unsealed court documents show lawmakers questioning CEO Mark Zuckerberg over a 2019 plan to make all teen accounts private by default, which was reportedly shelved after internal analysis warned it would “likely smash engagement.” A bipartisan group is also demanding transparency following testimony from a former Meta executive suggesting that business metrics may have outweighed user safety concerns.

Russia Accused of Intercepting European Satellites
European security officials say Russian space vehicles Luch-1 and Luch-2 have spent years intercepting unencrypted communications from key European geostationary satellites, with activity intensifying since the invasion of Ukraine. The intelligence gathering targets older satellites and could enable Moscow to spoof commands, disrupt operations, or coordinate hybrid attacks such as ground-based jamming. Germany’s defense minister called the activity a “fundamental threat” to European security.

Starlink Expansion Powers SpaceX Growth
SpaceX is aggressively expanding Starlink, which now accounts for an estimated 50%–80% of the company’s $15–$16 billion in annual revenue. New initiatives include a proprietary Starlink mobile device optimized for neural networks, direct-to-device internet service, and a space-tracking product. These efforts align with Elon Musk’s vision of orbiting data centers following the xAI merger, though experts question whether a Starlink phone could seriously challenge established mobile carriers.

Anthropic and OpenAI Clash Over Ads
Anthropic used its Super Bowl ads to mock OpenAI’s plan to introduce advertising into ChatGPT’s free tier, depicting a chatbot injecting irrelevant ads into conversations. The campaign triggered a sharp response from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who accused Anthropic of dishonesty and authoritarianism while defending ad-supported AI access. Altman also claimed, without evidence, that Anthropic’s products are only for wealthy users.

Tesla Sued Over Model Y Door Handles
The family of Samuel Tremblett, a 20-year-old killed in a Model Y crash in October 2025, is suing Tesla for wrongful death, alleging defective electronic door handles prevented his escape from a burning vehicle.
