Waymo Expands Robotaxi Simulation

Waymo is using DeepMind’s Genie 3 AI to build a “world model” that generates realistic virtual driving environments. The system can create synthetic camera and lidar data or convert dashcam footage into simulations, letting robotaxis train on rare or dangerous scenarios. Waymo says this should help it expand into new cities. Competitors like Nvidia, Wayve, and Tesla are also developing similar simulation tools.
