I watched a bit you did on CNET for parallels and VMware, I need something like this to remotely access my employer’s server and its applications via citrix ICA client. One of the programs I’ll run through the citrix client is SAP. Can parallels handle an app like SAP? Or do I need bootcamp? I wasn’t thrilled about your comment on bootcamp’s freeze issue. I’m running the most recent version of OSX.
Not a lot of help out there for stuff like this, any reply would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, Tom you F*#@ rule !!
Also, Tom ..How do I burn a HD 720p mkv file to a dvd and make it work like a normal dvd?
The bootcamp freeze issue has gone away with further boot camp upgrades. It was tied into the keyboard remapper I was using, so if you didn’t use that keyboard remapper you would have never had the freeze issue. Good question about SAP and Parralells. They have something called Workstation Extreme now – http://sap.sys-con.com/node/903351. VMWare has a page on SAP for their suite of products, so they *might* be a better bet. – http://www.vmware.com/solutions/business-critical-apps/sap/ But I haven’t tried it on anything.
Hey Tom.. (Sorry about the double post.. forgot to add it to the last message)
Remember the old instant pestering client called icq…
I just found out how dated I am by looking at my icq number. Its 6 numbers. The numbers now are in the 100s of millions. I did have a lower number but lost the email account long ago that was tied to it.
Kind of a pointless addon. Just wanted to see if I was the only one who noticed.
take care
Jay
Hey Tom, I have a question about bootcamp and parallels. I have a macbook with a bootcamp partition. Im thinking of purchasing parallels. However, I want to know if I can still boot up to my windows partition and say, for instance, play a game with intense video graphics with parallels installed. Because I still want to have a full pc when I need it, but still have parrellels when i just want to transfer files and open small applications. Can I do that?
Yep, you can create a PArralells image off the bootcamp partition and lvie the best of both worlds. A fewfunctions are not available when you do this however, but it’slivable. For instance you can’t have snapsjhots of a virtual machine when the image comes off the boot camp partition.
Er….. Handbrake?
elaborate on snapshots please
I’ve heard about snapshots but not really sure what it is.
Hey Tom, had a question. I’m looking into getting a network hard drive, any pointers? I want to be able to log onto the hardrive and grab some files from my office to home.
Any suggestions?
Tom,
Sometimes my DRAM with a 1080p gets all crazy because it’s running PYTHON on a Linux BUS with only one infrared signal – how can I maximize my IP add while not decreasing my blog to OS14/kbps ratio?
You are cute.

I wonder if you entertain guest appearance on a Thai podcast. I host a few podcasts in Thailand and am a big fan of BOL. Apparently, quite a few of our listeners are, too. Could not find a way to contact you, so I leave this comment here.
One way or another, please let me know.
Thanks,
I have to confess that as I write this story, I feel it goes to waste through the endless black hole that the internet is.
Today, June 23, I met my life role model. Yes, it’s Tom. By telling you this I can only prove that he is a real person. A person that likely is just as you see him on Cnet, normal, serious, sometimes hummorous, but also simple. He is a man just like us. He is not a crazy celebrity in rehab or by any other means he thinks he is more important than the bunch. I enjoyed a short conversation and a quick picture as a memory… but most of all made a good friend (Geek Friend).
PS: Tom is the most amazing celebrity I’ve met in my life!!!!! Thanks Tom.

hi tom
how did you use subrilliant as the publisher for your boiling point book. Don’t you have to put Lulu as the publisher of your book specially when you use its services…..But both your amazon and lulu listings show subbrilliant as your books publisher. Does lulu allow that (using their services but not their name)?
I also wanted to know : Does lulu hurt the writers reputation and the book’s brand name because people assume that the book was written by and amateur (whenever lulu is mentioned)
thanks.
Hallo Tom,
i got a question! I change the preference from Firefox on a mac, but in this video (http://firefox-tips-and-tricks.blogspot.com/) you use the firefox from Windows! Should i reset it or can i leave it in this way?
P.S: The Video is at the end of the page! Can you please send your answer on my email adress?
Thanks
Tom,
I really have some questions about the concept of “media locker.” You discussed this concept on BuzzOut 1124. It’s a Flaw that I noticed with Amazon and Xbox Live / Zune..
Can I contact you on one of your “question & answer” shows?
Hi Tom,
Haven’t visited CNET TV for while. I notice you lost a lot of weight. Just concerned.
Thanks, Peter
Tom,
My top 3 favorite shows.

gonna miss you over at CNET.. Congrats on your new gig at Twit!!
Tom:
Is there a way we can get all the links of the shows you will be on?
HI, I allways think that you own CNET, really, how they let you leave, dont tell me that you have to jump from a window to run.
I hope that you can make funny shows in Twit, im sure you will shine in any place.
Im trying to put a website runing, but i dont have time, money, luck, girls, beers, some ideas are andy. And im from Portugal(not Spain, nether Brasil).
If you can give me some advice, i will be gratefull.
Have fun in Twit, and dont forget, he will always watching you
PS: Sorry for my bad English, next time i will write in Portuguese. XD
I just wanted to add to the increasingly diffuse chatter of this thread, but–yeah the heretofore titularly referenced Mr. Merritt rocks; everybody knows that. Duh.
Hey Thom. Geeky Submission of the week from episode 70, here. Just thought i’d say “MAN!!!” what a resume, dude. Keep up the good work and I hope to meet you and Brian @ DragonCon this year. Also, if you’re in the Houston area in June. Come “con” with Spartacus(the wife) and I at Apollocon.org. I’m running a Cthulu LARP this year. Should be crazy. (yes, pun intended.)
i really loved your show i am sorry to hear that you left cnet hope for the best right ??
Lookin good Tom, love the beard..Grrr!
Hello Tom I enjoy all the podcasts you do and also Tech News Today on The Twit Network. Your doing a super Tom I like tech as much as anyone keep up the good work.
Say Tom! What kind of contract did you have with CNET? This is not just an idle question. BOL is “on vacation” this week and have chosen to run “classic episondes.” This afternoon they are running a BOL from 12/31/09 on which you are front and center. I was just wondering if you were consulted or if you have a right to compensation. Just thought you should know.
Marion
I had no contract. I was an at will employee. Their employee manual claims all work you do for them is their intellectual property. So going by that, they can do whatever they want with whatever I did there. But I really have no problem with them running old episodes that I’m in. I was in them after all. It’s not like I need them to pretend I wasn’t. It’s actually really cool. That episode up today from back in December was kind of awesome. No beard. Molly not back as a regular yet, so I do the open. Seems so long ago!
Tom, I just seen Tekzilla and seen that they had a promo for your show on there called Tom’s Top 5 which I absolutely loved the old one on CNET and so I checked the Rev3 website and you were there… I clicked back on the ep1 and you mentioned working for cnet>twit and now rev3 did you leave twit I’ve yet to catch up on the last months eps of TNT since I’m a trucker and dont always have internet where I travel any info thanks JCT#
No Jake, I’m still at TWiT.
Hey Tom, my tech intro was done mostly by you, specially with your how to videos, top 5 and others. Later I caught up with “East meets West” to correct my English accents. At CNET I don’t see you anymore. Aren’t you there? If not, what are you doing now? What are you planning to do?
Everything I’m doing is listed on this page!! Primarily, I’m hosting Tech News Today daily at TWiT. Come watch.
Tom,
I always find you insightful and you give good advice. I have a situation I hope you can advise me on…
Apple has charged me twice for the same app on the same transaction. The duplicate charges have the same Order Number and Receipt Date. I submitted three claims to Apple iTunes Customer Service, but they were denied each time. I was told that I benefited from similar refunds, so I was ineligible. I guess one could assume that you could be charged for the same version of the app twice or more if you re download it. I thought you could re download apps that you purchased? I thought you could download updates for free too? You just had to pay for upgrades right? I decided to start auditing my iTunes receipt and I found another instance of duplicate charges. Can they charge me twice for the same app (identical version) purchased on the same day? Yes, they can I explained this to iTunes Customer service three times and to an Apple Store Employee. I was referred to the iTunes Terms of Service. I don’t even want to continue auditing my receipts….
Hey Tom! I’ve been following you since CNET, so glad to see you haven’t dropped out of the radar. I’ll star watching TWiT daily now!
Good luck with everything!
Hi Tom,
I am a longtime listener of TWiT & CNET.
Today I am very happy to anounce my first iPhone app called ‘SwayPix’. You can see here: http://www.swaypix.com/ It was a long journey but finally it’s in iTunes app store. Here is a direct link: http://itunes.apple.com/app/swaypix/id406524801?mt=8
Please except my iTunes Redeem/Download Code: TMXMXM44PJ7M and check it out on your iPhone. I really will be ticket to death if you give your feedback. I am now working on bringing Indian book on iPad and iPhone.
It is my pleasure to provide this brief introduce of the SwayPix iPhone application.
The app known as SwayPix is a mini photo album shown in an origami style using provided covers and templates. SwayPix provides an innovative way to create anything from invitations to unique announcement using text, photos, music, graphics and your own sound that can easily be sent via email, Facebook and Twitter!
SwayPix’s fill-in format makes extending an announcement or inviting friends and family to an event personal, easy and very stylish. Customize SwayPix by inserting your own photos, writing your own original text, choose from a specially recorded soundtracks and even record your own voice. SwayPix has memorable invitations and greeting cards for all occasions: Anniversary, Baby Shower, Birth Announcements, Birthday, Graduation, Invitation, Thank You, I Love You, Thinking of You, and many more!
Invites and greeting cards get lost in the mail thrown away… SwayPix stays with the recipient, in their pocket, purse and close to their heart!
Visit http://www.swaypix.com to view trendy gallery and sample invitations, greeting cards and announcements! With a few simple steps, SwayPix will transform your announcement or invite into an elegant, origami style e-card!
My journey with technology began in India with an early version of the Heidelberg printing press, soon after brought me to the US where I converted to digital media and has now landed me in the exciting world of virtual, paperless solutions.
SwayPix is just the beginning for me in terms of iPhone/iPad applications and has inspired me to continue developing apps.
Please take a moment to review the valuable information included in this press kit: files.me.com/atul.raval/68kaij
Thanks again for all your good work and happy holidays!
Best regards,
Atul

Tom,
Ref:TV is hard
Although I like almost everything you do, this episode made me squirm enough to write to you. The real problem is not having enough to time to tap the amazing flood of information this high-tech era of science and exploration has given us, an amazing wealth of information about who we are and the universe we live in. To complain that nobody’s telling you what to watch is just pathetic, but, I suspect, is symptomatic of the laziness of this age.
My advice is to sit down and decide what’s really important to you. Life is short. Take advantage of the time you have.
Regards,
Henry Harris
Hay Tom,

Tom
To whoever edits TNT, please say a big Thanks!
They are getting the video out the same day, which is MUCH appreciated!
Your video on Ubuntu, changed my life. Thank you, and keep doing what you do.
ON Hulu ads: I like the ad space, but I don’t see them. Hulu makes nice little intermissions that are blocked by my security utils and I get about five minutes of silence. Enough tome to get a cool drink, a snack or coffee.
I tried the free week trial of the “new” Hulu with the advertised Criterion collection. They had about 10% of the Criterion film archive, and I’m betting there is little likelihood they will ever get the rest of it.
I got a Roku and between Pandora and Fox Daily News its worth the money. I dropped Netflix because they have essentially dropped out of the film history and archive business and taken up the pop dreck gutter kultur CGI streaming crapola business.
Hollywood is going to charge (What th…?!) $35 for a Blue Ray / 3D CGI mindless, plotless action and juvenile magic and SciFi movies and other meaningless post modern drivel?
I want Hastings to spin off the pre 1990 (or 1980) to a pay per view streaming service for an appreciative audience who want film history, film art, screenplays adapted from literature and great story telling.
Is Reed Hastings the same guy that owned the Hastings books and media stores in the Mid South and Northwest in the 80′s-90′s? These were pretty nice enterprises. I used to find scarce VHS foreign films and unusual or cult Hollywood stuff for 50c a day rentals. That’s $5 in today’s Demo-prat Zimbabwe dollars.
Tom,
I have been an avid listener for 5 years beginning with Buzz-Out-Loud. Of all the co-hosts you have worked with my favorite, by far, will always be Molly Wood. I hope you find a way to have her on TNT (preferably as a regular).
Keep up the great work,
~Noam
p.s Glad you were able to get Jason to come over from CNET. He does a great job and often has thoughtful commentary.
(sent this to TNT email but wanted to make sure you got it as I had been thinking about writing this email ever since you moved to TNT)
Tom-
Your CNET video about upgrading a laptop hard drive led me to try it. But I had aproblem that I hope you can help me with. I used the Apricorn EZ Upgrade kit to try to expand my 80 Gb to 120 Gb – new SanDisk Solid State drive. But what happened is that the new drive lost its 120 Gb properties and became an identical 93 Gb as my original. (My 80 Gb was actually 93Gb.) It also did not boot my laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505).
I tried to format the new disk in order to retry, but it still retained only the 93 Gb property.
What settings do you recommend for me to actually gain additional storage space on the new drive? I’m thinking of trying again, with a larger replacement drive.
Thanks

Hey Tom,
Just watched your ces day 2 report. Why would you spend 15 minutes on the yo gabba gabba clock radio which isn’t even available. Is this a hot ces product?
Peter
Tom,
I know that you have published an e-book via Amazon and I was just wondering how that’s worked out overall. My dad has a book that’s nearly completed about his adventures in Vietnam 1967-1968 and he has considered that option. What do you think? He has a lot of pictures too that go along with the story.
I’d say go for it. Haven’t had any huge problems and it’s a small amount of money, but it gets it out there.
Go Blues!
About a story you did on TWIG (ep 143) on the “hologram tupac” may I suggest looking up Hatsune Miku and the live concerts done it might interest you as well.
