I stopped BOL just to watch this quick tip and I registered to leave this comment. This is an incredibly important tip. When my aunt got her first computer (very recently) she called my parents with a problem where some of the letters she typed were coming up as numbers. As soon as I heard the letters that were causing the problem, I knew it had to be the num lock key. Sure enough, that was the problem and it was quickly fixed. But the average new user would have no idea what that key is used for, especially laptop users.
